I think a trainer might be a good investment. You can always blog about something else after you achieve this! I like the sunset but have to say I prefer the action shots or at least a human in the picture. 😀
Not incorporating strength training definitely slowed my progress. Jumping 1-2 times per week has also been essential for me. I went from never lifting to being able to squat about 2x my bodyweight.
I will also say, hiring a trainer was one of the best things I ever did to work towards jumping higher (despite my extreme aversion to spending money). I think KneesOverToes is a very patient approach (I tried incorporating it, but didn't see it translate to my vertical) that will produce results over a long period of time. I chose to work with THP strength. I don't regret it.
There are several trainers out there that I think have solid programs though (vertical jump protocol, project pure athlete, and jump science all seem legit).
That’s awesome gains on the strength training! Finding that right balance is a constant struggle and I’m reevaluating all that right now.
If you don’t mind me asking, did you see pretty immediate vertical gains when getting going with a trainer, in comparison to KOT? I love that I’ve built that strength foundation and have some ideas for now addressing the vertical, but nice to hear an endorsement on the trainer front.
Appreciate the conversation and the shoutout! Fun to see the progress and hoping an upcoming change sends the vertical into overdrive, with this strength as a foundation. But you’ve actually climbed the mountain, so I’m interested in your thoughts!
It's hard to say I saw "immediate" vertical gains, because it was hard to pinpoint when they happened but I went from barely touching rim, to fingertips over, to touching 6 inches above the rim in about 3 months of training with a "deload" right at the end of the 3 months. I had been lifting for about 7 months prior to those 3 months with THP but the strength hadn't translated to my jumping yet.
I feel like I can't accurately judge my KOT time because I wasn't measuring my vertical and I started it right when my first daughter was born so it didn't last.
That’s pretty great progress for 3 months! Nice to know the translation from strength to vertical is out there. I’ll be keeping tabs on things, this is more of an endorsement for coaching than I thought haha
Fair enough on KOT, that’s a lot going on to try and stick with!

Also, awesome progress on your nordics.
